Why the Greens of Egypt are against a military regime ? #Noscaf

A basic pillar of the Green politics is non-violence; Green philosophers always conclude that whenever power is in the hands of armed forces as a matter of common sense violence will be used against any potential opposition and will be prioritized over peaceful solutions and negotiations and that what was typically applied in Egypt.

Ever since I have joined the Green Party of Egypt and I have always heard this: that it is totally against our principles that a military regime takes over the country something which I have known about them like 6 years ago since I have first heard of them, from the first day of #Jan25 a party leader said "Even if Mubarak stepped down and handled the country to a military regime we have to continue our protest and do not trust this trick" ,However the Green Party of Egypt has a severe shortage in human resources to effectively support the protests.

…another party leader commented on victims falling during the second wave of our revolution:"This is the mistake of those who called for the sit-in #Tahrir and abandoned the revolutionaries"….I am pretty sure that the Greens  are so much into the sit-in till the country is handled to a civil leadership, however they cannot carry the responsibility of such call due to severe shortage of human resources so they just take an "unnoticed" part of the protest as per their limited abilities.

Why there is still a long road ahead of: The Greens of North Africa ?

The general theme in the northern African country is the dominance of the two camps "Islamists & Liberals" on the political scene "apart from the inaccuracy of the terminology in that concern". So where are the Greens of North Africa are located in that scene and do they have a chance to exist??

Egypt:
A party that was petitioned to be launched by 1987 But faced difficulties under Mubarak, and wasn’t inaugurated until 1990 and was shut down by the regime for two years during the previous decade, They are now very slowly trying to find their place in the Egyptian political scene however It still needs young visionary progressive involvement & leadership.
With the vast number of emerging & existing political parties in Egypt youth are scattered, strayed and confused ,with the default impression of a "Green Party" as a luxurious or academic party effective involvement of youth will not be easily guaranteed ,the Green Party will need more time to spread the word and change paradigms.

Tunisia:
Currently Tunisia has two Green Parties one which is believed to have been awarded the "green light" to exist from Bin Ali`s former regime but more well "established which is " Le parti des Verts pour le Progrès" and another party which is believed to have been oppressed by Bin Ali`s regime which is "Le parti Tunisie Verte".
However both parties will be facing the same difficulties mentioned above under the expected continous success for Al-Nahda party in various elections and the vast number of other parties competing for the votes.

Libya :
Till now there is no well established official Green party in Libya however there are serious attempts to launch a Libyan Green Party soon , The difference in Libya is that it is a more tribal oriented society with the least practice of how political party operates even under dictatorships but still they got great expectations for a more free political circumstances. However the extent of the effect of the "Tribal mentality" –which is off course not that Green oriented- will need to be examined.

Algeria:
Still operated under the old style north African dictatorships with very few options for such political parties to emerge and exist the Green party of Algeria still has a very long road to make it and spread the word with lots of landmines on that road.

Morocco :
A different system in Morocco than the all other cases as it is a kingdom?? However there exists a Moroccan Green Party with a bit more chances than Algeria to practice it`s activities but still the chances of strong existence of such political party in a royal system with not much awareness about the ideology is doubted.

Greens run in historic Tunisian elections

The Green party of Tunisia, Tunisie Verte, ran candidates in the elections that took place in October following the democratic revolution. The party was formed in 2004 but struggled with harassment and oppression for many years. It was finally able to be registered in early 2011 in time for the elections. The party was not successful in winning a seat in the national parliament but intends to run candidates in the local government elections that will take place in the first half of 2012

Green Candidate for the United States President
Jill Stein, a doctor from Massachusetts has launched a campaign for President of the United States in 2012. Jill has been an active member of the State Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party since 2002 and run for Governor of the State twice. She hopes to build a national following by appealing to the people who have identified with the Occupy Wall Street protest movement. The main issues for her campaign are green jobs, universal health care, reversing student debt and pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan.

New rivals for Greens in Europe
In the recent Berlin State election the German Greens secured over 17% of the vote, but did not achieve the +20% that was predicted in the lead up to the poll. Some analysis shows that 17,000 former Green Party supporters switched their vote to the Pirate Party which some media have dubbed the ‘new Greens’. The Pirates won 15 seats in their first election by campaigning on internet freedoms and digital privacy, free public transport and a student-teacher ratio in public schools of 15 to 1.
African Green leader visits WA for CHOGM
Rwandan Greens President, Frank Habineza was in Perth last week to raise awareness about the Rwandan Greens around the Commonwealth Leaders meeting. Rwanda is the newest member of the Commonwealth but there is a cloud over the oppressive way it treats its media and opposition parties. Frank met with a number of WA Greens while he was in Perth and he lobbied Foreign Ministers, former Prime Ministers and Commonwealth organisations. He found new allies to help support the Rwandan Greens into the future as they work to get their party registered and run candidates in the 2013 election.

Denmark
New Green Ministers - Six Green Ministers were appointed in October as part of a new coalition government in Denmark. The Green Socialist Party, which is an observer party of the European Greens, is in government with two other parties.

Australia
Carbon tax : The Federal Government's controversial climate legislation has passed the Senate 36-32 and will now become law from mid-next year.
From July 2012, polluting industries will pay $23 per tonne of carbon emissions and households will be compensated for extra costs through tax cuts and increased benefits.
The vote was greeted with glee from the Government and Greens and dismay by Opposition members, who were first out of the Senate doors to voice their protests.

R.I.P. Wangari Maathai a Green idol

Wangari Maathai is our Green idol that we all stand with deep regrets for such an inconventional Green fighter and revolutionist....With deep sorrow and sadness we regret the passage of the Kenyan Green heroin that succeeded in  introducing revolution in our minds, in our paradigms.

Here i copy some words from my colleagues of Kenya Young Greens...My deep regrets and condolences  for you my friends :

It is with great sadness that we received and accepted the passage of the Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Mathaai. Prof. passed on while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital after a year's struggle with ovarian cancer. Kenya Young Greens, Kenyans and the world will remember Prof as a hero who survived imprisonment, death threats and intimidation in a bid to save Kenya's forests. We remember her benefit not just to the current generation but also to posterity. As the founder of the Greenbelt Movement and her ardent support and belief in Green principles, we the Green fraternity have lost a mentor, a supporter, a Green, a leader and a woman of Noble character.

She was also a Human rights activist who led Kenyan Women in an act of boldness to agitate for the release of political prisoners.  For this we mourn her passing and ask that God may rest her soul in eternal peace.Take a moment and plant a tree in her memory Take a moment and raise awareness of any looming specie extinction threat in her memory. Take a moment and write a good story of her achievements in her memory. Take a moment and do good to the ecology in her memory. For all her acts of peace, for all her acts of love, for all her acts of boldness and for all her acts of leadership, Prof. lives on in our hearts, she lives in the strong spirit of the universe. May her soul rest in peace.

The Egyptian Greens campaign for removing 17 million landmines from Egypt

The Egyptian Greens launched on their official website a campaign for removing 17 million landmines from the northern coast region in Egypt which were a result of world war 2 and Egyptians did not plant them and they are paying an extremely high bill of more than 8000 casualties killed and injured, in addition to banning the
development in such promising region for decades.

Some of the worth mentioning numbers mentioned according to some reports that those landmines ban
reaching around 4.8 billion barrels of oil and 13.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas  ???

The Egyptian Greens also believe that the Egyptian northern coast is the future of sustainable development in Egypt with it`s outstanding potential for sustainable communities and will organize some workshops and events related to this issue.

A suggestion for a Blue-Green alliance in Egypt

Is there a party that effectively stands for labor rights in Egypt... an essential political approach that should be spotted clearly on the Egyptian political map plus the Greens of Egypt are not as strong as they are supposed to be…this is a suggestion from me for a Blue-Green alliance as the voice for the "unseen" essential political players in Egypt…and it is not an alien idea as we have a good example in the US Blue-Green alliance that sort of progressive political approach should offer innovative political solutions for Egyptians that should not be stuck in only two or three ideologies.
